As Christian parents we are constantly seeking to instill a love of God into our kids. One of the primary ways we can do that is to introduce them to God’s Word at a level they can understand! Below are some amazing Bibles that can help God’s Word come alive to them no matter what age they are!

The Story Of My Childhood Bible

There is one Bible from my childhood that stands out in my memory. I was about six years old and my parents had started to entrust me with a whole $2 allowance every week. From that $2, I had to put 25 cent in the offering on Sunday and 25 cents into my piggy bank for savings. The other $1.50 was mine for the spending. I have never felt more rich! 🙂

One day, not long after I started getting my allowance, my eye was caught by the glorious pink, purple, and silver sparkly covered Bible at our local Christian book store.

It was love at first sight of that Bible. I just knew I had to have it!

So, my mom told me to save up my spending money and I could get it. This beautiful Bible was $22 dollars. That was a lot of weeks of chores and such before I would ever get to purchase it. But I faithfully stashed my weekly allowance to get that special pink and purple sparkle Adventure Bible.

Months rolled by and I anxiously made sure it was still in stock at the store every time we went to visit.

Surprise Ending

A week before I had enough money for that special Bible, it went missing from the shelves. I was utterly distraught but my mom assured me they would probably get more soon. Two days later, for Valentine’s Day, my parents gave me that special Bible.

My parents explained that they were so proud of me seeking to own my own special copy of the Adventure Bible that they decided it was worthy of being a special gift. Also, they said that they wanted me to know more about God’s love so it made sense for a Valentine’s Day gift.

That Bible and the memories that go with it are still precious! And the hours I spend studying God’s Word from the pages shaped much of who I am today.

Passing On The Gift of the Bible To My Own Kids

Growing up, there were three key times when I received Bibles as gifts and each time signified a new season of life for me. Perhaps because of the meaning and precious nature of these gifts, it has made it all the more important to me as a parent to find just the right Bible for each of my own kids.

Okay, let’s look at the best Bibles that are out there for kids of every age!

Bibles For Kids 0-3

These sweet little ones can’t read yet but they have an amazing ability to remember and retain information that is read to them at their level. (Seriously, my 2 year old knows the names of Noah’s three sons better than I do because she has heard me read that particular story so many times!) 🙂

Candle Bible for Kids

This is the Bible my daughter has and she LOVES it to death. Each page has brightly colored illustrations that she can stare at for hours along with a few paragraphs of each story. Nothing is more exciting than watching her become engaged with God’s Word at such a young age!

The Candle Bible for Kids is my go-to baby shower gift book. It gives parents something to use and look forward to in the future, rather than another onesie the baby will outgrow in a matter of a few weeks.

While the stories that are included are very basic retellings, they do hold true to Scripture fairly closely while still not being anything that would raise hard-to-answer questions from your kids.

Candle Bible for Kids Toddler Edition

Basically the same Bible as the one above, just simplified a little. I prefer the other because my kids can make use of the other Bible for longer but the Toddler Edition is great too. It is totally a personal preference thing. Both are great resources that you won’t regret!

The Rhyme Bible Storybook

If your child enjoys stories told with rhythm and cadence, this is the perfect Bible for them. Some other parents have even mentioned their kids memorized the rhythms and could recite them back because the cadence of the stories made it easier to remember. How cool is that?!

The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible

While digging through the local book sale, I found a brand new copy of The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for 50 cents. Score! 🙂

We gave it as a gift to my son for Christmas as his first Bible. Even though he is too young for fully understanding it yet, he enjoys looking at the pictures while I read it to him and his sister.

If your kids are at all like mine and love the Berenstain Bears, they will be addicted to this Bible done in the illustrations to look like their other books while holding true to the Bible stories well.

Actually, my favorite part about this Bible is that it includes stories like the Tower of Babel which I have not seen in many other kid’s Bible story books. The other nice thing is that the paragraphs are short which means easier reading for little ones.

Bibles for Kids Ages 4-7

Whew, your kids still love their picture Bibles but maybe you are looking to dive a little deeper now. These Bibles are great to keep your kid’s interest while still presenting kid-friendly shortened Bible stories that are easy for them to grasp as early readers.

The Beginner’s Bible

Growing up, I had several friends with The Beginner’s Bible and I always thought they looked cool. As an adult, I appreciate the lasting power of this particular Bible. It is still one of the best selling children’s Bibles on Amazon!

What is even nicer is that you can buy many other resources such as coloring books, devotionals, and activity books that have the theme to go with The Beginner Bible and make it a whole set on your kid’s bookshelf.

Adventures in Odyssey Bible

If there is an Adventure in Odyssey fan in your house, this is the Bible for them. Seriously, I would totally own this for myself because I still love Odyssey so much!

Basically, it is Bible stories with intermittent information and explanations from the gang in Odyssey to help fill in the gaps of information that a younger child might not understand. Oh, and Odyssey trivia!!

Just one question, is it wrong for an almost 30 year old woman to own it for herself…asking for a friend. 🙂

Bibles for Kids Ages 8-12

Okay, by now your kid is definitely ready to move on from cute re-tellings of Bible stories to the actual Bible. But, just like me as a kid, it is way more fun to read a Bible that is geared to their age!

The Adventure Bible

Here it is, folks. This is the exact same Bible I wanted! Except, a few things have changed since then. Like, no more sparkly 90’s colors on the cover. 🙂

However, the inside is still filled with the same wonderful content that made me love The Adventure Bible so much as a kid.

There are sections that provide insights into the culture and places of the Bible, there are full colored pages with important highlights on the things such as the Ten Commandments, and even a concordance in the back to help teach your child how to search and navigate through the Bible on their own.

Seriously, I can not recommend The Adventure Bible enough to you as a gift to your child to get them started into the full text of God’s Word!

There really is no other Bible that I have found that compares to the standard of excellence found in this one geared for your kids ages 8 to 12. (I personally think it would be great for younger but the age guidelines every where state that it is designed with the 8 to 12 year old crowd in mind.)

Oh, and they do have cool cover options like this zebra print one and ocean wave one if that might be more interesting for your kid’s personal taste.

Bibles for Kids Ages 13-18

The teen years. Pretty soon, your child will (hopefully) be preparing to leave your nest and enter the world. Let’s find a Bible that will engage and encourage your teen to stay strong in the faith that you have been raising them in all these years!

Revolution: The Bible for Teen Guys

My husband found this Bible on a clearance shelf of a Christian bookstore the first year we were married and he fell in love with this Bible and still uses it to this day. (The cover is actually blue and black leather. For some reason, the picture Amazon provides is just of the box it ships in, so as not to confuse anyone about what to expect.)

It is easy to use, masculine looking, and has wonderful resources throughout each page to encourage Christian young men through the struggles that they face on a daily basis.

Complete with a subject index, insert pages of Biblical advice for young men, and several Bible reading plans, this Bible is jam packed with helpful resources for teen guys. Revolution: The Bible for Teen Guys will be a useful tool for your teenage son as he grows to manhood and seeks spiritual guidance along the way.

The Action Bible

Here is another Bible for the teen boy in your life. We own The Action Bible as well and it is the most beautifully drawn and illustrated Bible I have ever seen.

The Action Bible is a graphic novel style compilation of large portions of the Bible. The illustrations are award winning for a reason. We have spent hours pouring over the stories and illustrations and marveling at the ways it brings the Bible to life in a whole new way!

My only caveat is the fact that this is not an actual Bible. It can not be used to replace the Bible in your teen boy’s life but it will most definitely be a Bible resource that will keep him in God’s Word and point Him directly to the Scriptures.

Revolve Devotional Bible

Welcome your daughter into the new world of being a teenage girl with this great Bible designed with her in mind. Considering the fact that I tend to lean strongly on the ESV and NIV translations of the Bible, I must admit that for a time during high school, I found this version of the Bible to be much easier to grasp. Because of the ease of use, I kept  studying God’s Word when I otherwise might have given up.

Along side the Scriptures, there are daily devotionals for your daughter to read and help walk her through the entire Bible. Plus, many side sections feature virtue building characteristics, women of the Bible, and a topical index to help find verses easily.

Because of the easy reading level of Revolve Devotional Bible, I have used it in the past as gifts to teen girls (including girls who spoke English as a second language) and even as graduation gifts.

True Images: The Bible For Teen Girls

Of all the Bibles on this list, this is the one I have actually not held or looked at personally. Due to the nature of the reviews I have found and the pictures I have seen of the pages inside, I decided it was too good of a resource to pass up mentioning to you.

Please prayerfully check it out for yourself to decide if it might work well for your daughter.

Bonus Section:

Bibles for College Kids

Whether your kid is spending their first year in the dorm room at college or staring their first job as an adult, they will most definitely face questions about their Christian faith. Because of this, I would definitely recommend that you find them a Bible that will not only show them God’s Truth but why they can believe the Truth found in God’s Word!

Apologetics Study Bible for Students

The Apologetics Study Bible for Students is geared to help students as they face common questions about Christianity and the Bible. There are sections to show archaeological proof for the Bible along with tips on how to answer many of the most common questions they will encounter. Perfect for teaching the basics of apologetics while studying Scripture.

The Case for Christ Study Bible

More than probably any other Bible on this list, this one holds a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf.  Why? Because this is the Bible I gave my future husband when he was still an atheist.

As he studied The Case for Christ Study Bible, God used not only His Word but the information found in the notes throughout this book to soften my future husband’s heart and eventually lead him to a saving relationship with God thought Jesus Christ!

This particular Bible has powerful answers from a former atheist, Lee Strobel, to help both believers and non-believers alike study and understand the God found in the Bible. There are in depth sections that explain the evidence for the Bible, for the diety of Jesus Christ, and much more!

Honestly, I wish every Christian could have this Bible because it is such a phenomenal resource!

It is tricky to find anymore but Amazon does have copies on sale from time to time so do yourself a favor and buy it the next time you seen one.

Bibles for Adult Kids

Okay, your kids are grown, out of college and perhaps even married with families of their own. That doesn’t mean you can’t still give them a gift of God’s Holy Word!

ESV Study Bible

My ESV Study Bible is the one I use every single day. Mine is actually so old that they don’t sell that particular one anymore but that is because they have better versions available now.

As an adult and as a maturing Christian, this is my go-to Bible. Being a visual learner, I especially appreciate the fact that they have so many charts and maps throughout to aid my study and understanding of the Biblical text.

The ESV Study Bible comes highly recommended by some of today’s most sound Christian leaders such as Joni Ereckson Tada, John Piper, and. J. I. Packer to name a few.

I consider this the pocket knife of Bibles. It has a useful application for everything! 🙂

ESV One Year Bible

Another option that I would recommend is this Bible that will help your grown child read through the Bible in a year. If there is one more Bible that I would like to own, it is this one. I love the idea of knowing that within a year I will have read the entire Bible.

In Closing

Whew, that was a lot of info to check out. Please take your time and prayerfully check out your options when deciding what Bible to give your child. God has given you special insight into the heart of your child and you will know best what will aid your child’s journey to becoming a student of the Bible.

I hope these suggestions have served to help you. Please let me know if you have anymore questions that I could answer.
