Why Toddlers Need To Know The Biblical Account Of Creation
From the Biblical account of Creation found in the first sentences of Genesis all the way to the final Amen of Revelation, God’s Word is true.
Yet we live in a world that questions every word of the Bible. In fact, we live in a world that downright ridicules the Bible, especially the first few chapters.
As a Christian mom, it is my job to teach my children the Truth found in God’s Word no matter how culturally irrelevant it might be deemed by certain modern scholars.

Why I Am Teaching My Toddler The Biblical Account Of Creation
In today’s world, it would be easier to not teach my toddler about the truth found in God’s Word. Some would even say it would be merciful to not plague my child with outdated belief systems such as Christianity and the Biblical account of Creation.
Besides, the world would gladly tell my child what to believe. (You can be certain the world’s teaching does not align with what is found in the pages of the Bible!)
We are told that the world will see the wisdom of God as foolishness. As Christian moms, if we are teaching our kids Biblical truth, we must be prepared to withstand the accusations that we are simply filling our kid’s head with nonsensical fairy tales.
With all of the push back against a mom, why should we add the headache of teaching even our youngest children the Creation story?
Here are five reasons why I have decided to be counter-cultural and teach my kids the Biblical account of Creation.
Reason #1: I Want My Child To Know All Of God’s Word.
Within the church, you will find that Bible stories can tend to be sugar coated, especially for younger children. While I understand that no Sunday School teacher wants to explain certain events, it also does us no good to hide Biblical truth from our kids either. Rather we need to give the kids a chance to understand the Bible in its entirety.
Yes, even the parts of the Bible that are hard to read and understand. No, they might not fully grasp every story the first time we share it with them. That is okay.
In teaching circles, teachers are told to “front load” information to kids. Basically, you teach an idea or skill to a child so that when they hear it again in the future, they will be better prepared to understand it and act on it. Often, teaching toddlers the Bible is an act of front loading them God’s Truth so they can be better prepared to act on it in the future.
If we want our children to develop a knowledge and love for all of God’s Word, we need to actually be teaching them all of God’s Word!
Reason #2: I Want My Child To Know That All Of God’s Word Is Truth.
How can I tell my child that the Word of God is true and then excuse and undermine certain portions of Scripture?
Without the Creation story, they will not be able to grasp how much they truly need to have a relationship with God. Since the Creation story houses the first promise of Christ coming to save us from our sins, this story is exceptionally important for building a foundation of faith in our kid’s heart.
Let’s not undermine the truth found at the beginning of the Bible. As our children grow older, they will be left vulnerable to doubts about the truth of the entire Bible if we open the door for them to doubt one particular section of Scriptures.
Reason #3: I Want My Child To Be Prepared To Answer For Their Faith At A Young Age.
Honestly, Christians are coming under attack more for their faith in God now than at any other point in history. If I want my child to be prepared to stand for their faith in God, I can’t afford to wait until they are in their late teen years to teach them.
Rather, when they are young and quick to grasp concepts, let’s begin training them to give an answer for the hope they have as Christian.
In addition, this will help us start to answer the doubts and hard questions that they will eventually have to face as they mature.
If we are already having these conversations with our kids at a young age, they will be more comfortable (and therefore, more likely) to bring their struggles to us in conversations as teens and young adults as well.
Reason #4: I Want To Fulfill My God-Given Role Of Teacher In My Child’s Life.
God has given me a special command and calling on my life as a Christian mother. I am to teach my children daily to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, and mind!
Often, as moms, we can get so consumed with the day-to-day demands of motherhood that we forget the beauty and holiness that is our calling. Believe me, when the laundry piles are taller than my toddler, it makes it easy to justify letting Bible teaching slip down on my priority list.
We must be on guard.
Satan wants us to underestimate the important of training our kids in Biblical truth. He loves to feed us lies that say we are not qualified to teach the Bible to our kids, that we are too busy to make it a priority, and that we are setting our kids up for failure by teaching them outdated “stories.”
Today, let’s take a stand for even the faith of our youngest children. Don’t wait until you have a Pinterest-perfect Bible lesson prepared. Instead grab your kid’s favorite Bible and read together. You do not have to have a Bible degree to teach your child the Biblical account of creation or any other Bible story for that matter!
Reason #5: I Want My Child To Know God Personally.
More than anything in this world, I want each of my children to have a personal relationship with God.
I am sure that every Christian mother out there would echo the words that there is “no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (3 John 1:4)
Teaching the Biblical account of Creation is just another way that I can continue to do my part in helping my child see and accept their need for a restored relationship with God. And that is more than enough reason for me to keep teaching the Creation story even when those around see it as foolishness!
