5 Verses For The Discouraged Christian Mom
What discouraged Christian mom hasn’t had days where she just wants to crawl back in bed and pull the covers over her head? Motherhood is a biggest job you as a female will ever undertake. It is a life long commitment to love and guide and train and care for another human being! That is HUGE!
With great responsibility comes lots of work. Work is a good thing but it can become exhausting and soul crushing if we let it. Especially for Christian moms who are trying to live up to their own expectations as well as the expectations of others within their family, school, and church communities.
Today let’s step away from the madness and focus on God’s Truth!

5 Verses For The Discouraged Christian Mom
Let His words of comfort provide salve for your weary heart, Mommy!
Mark 6:30-32
The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves.
Mothers and the apostles apparently had something in common-neither had time to even eat because they were so busy some days! 🙂
The best take away for a discouraged Christian mom from this passage is the fact that they listened when Jesus told them to rest! Isn’t it tempting to just try to “tough it out” and keep going? Often, I think our husbands and children would benefit just as much as we would if we would just take a step back and rest!
Galatians 6:9-10
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
When we were helping clean out my great aunt’s home after her passing, we came across a plaque on her kitchen wall that said, “Dearie is weary.” There was a comical picture of a very frazzled woman beside the saying. Looking back, there are many days where I resemble that saying to a T! That is why it is so important for me to be reminded to not succumb to the enemy of weariness. Weariness leads to apathy, especially spiritual apathy and I do not want that to hinder my effectiveness as a mother!
So big picture, DON’T GIVE UP! You plus God is a majority, Momma, and you can do this!
3 John 1:4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
When I look at today’s society and culture, it is easy for my heart to quiver in fear for the souls of my children. They face so many forces that want to steal their souls away from God! When these thoughts and fears threaten to suffocate me, I turn to this verse.
When I feel like it is an uphill battle every day for their hearts and souls and I just don’t want to fight it anymore, I let God’s word remind me of the joy that will come when I see my children grown and walking in God’s Truth. It will be worth all the spiritual battles on my knees, all the planning and sharing of Bible truths, and all the intentional Christian living for my children to model.
1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Motherhood has many moments of sacrifice and suffering. Especially for the Christian mother who seeks to live her life fully committed to Christ. Since you are raising your children in a way that the world does not agree with, you will face even more hurdles in your life as a parent.
Believe me when I say that I know that some days as a mother can feel like an eternity but even those days are short blinks in the grand scheme of eternity! It helps to keep that in sight when you are feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and exhausted.
Matthew 25:21
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Finally, when it feels like you are the most under appreciated human on planet earth, remember that someday your Heavenly Father is going to open wide His arms and greet you at Heaven’s Gate with these beautiful words, “Well done.” It will make every tired, tear-filled, exhausting day of your life worth it.

Thank you for this post! One verse I really like is Psalm 55:22:
“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
