Amazing Year-Long Devotional Books For Kids
Every Christian mom dreams of having a Pinterest-perfect family devotional time with their kids. However, real life and real kids get in the way of our visions of perfection!
My own mom introduced me to several high-quality devotionals that helped me grow in my own Bible study time. Along they way, she and my dad used several different devotionals to enhance our family’s devotional times. Now that I am a mom to three kiddos myself, my desire is to help them develop their own relationships with the Lord.
Listed below you will find amazing year-long devotional books for kids of all ages. While these books can help guide your children through their own Bible study times, you can also use them to stay on track at your family devotional time. Or a little of both! 🙂

Why Use A Year-Long Devotional Book For Kids?
While there are many great devotionals that do not take a year to complete, I am choosing to highlight year-long devotionals for three reasons.
Year-long devotionals can:
- Help form long-term Bible study habits. Habits take time to form. When you keep up with a year-long devotional book, it serves to truly ingrain the positive habit of studying your Bible.
- Give continuity and stability to devotional times. Devotionals are set up to have each day look similar. This continuity helps kids learn to focus on the message as they enjoy the stability of an easy daily routine.
- Take out the guess work of what to do next. So many devotionals go only 30 days or sometimes up to 90 days. Then you are back to deciding another devotional. With year-long devotionals, it really takes out the leg work and gives you something to enjoy for the long term. Plus, when you only have to buy one new devotional a year, it saves a lot in the book buying budget too!

365 Read-aloud Stories from the Bible
Fond memories abound for me with this book because 365 Read-aloud Stories from the Bible is one of the first devotionals I read with my own parents. Currently, we are walking our way through the Bible with our three year old daughter and one year old son using this devotional. They enjoy the daily readings which are simple paraphrases of larger passages of Scripture. It has been a great way to introduce them to Bible stories that are not often shared with younger audiences. Best of all, these Bible stories are shared in age-appropriate ways.
The Beginner’s Bible 365 Devotions for Kids
The Beginner’s Bible is a classic standard of excellence for helping small children grasp Bible stories. Now they offer a year-long devotional for your youngest family members. Each day has a short Bible verse, a take away point, a easy retelling of a Bible story, and a simple prayer to pray together. The bright colors of this book make it appealing to kids and the ease of use makes it practical for parents!
A Little God Time For Kids
In this book, you will find simple illustrations that bring to life each day’s Scripture verse so young children can grasp harder concepts. As a parent, I enjoy the simplicity of this book’s message. Plus, I think a lot of these could be turned into simple Children’s Sermons and illustrations for a younger Sunday School classroom so that is a huge bonus for A Little God Time For Kids too!

The Purpose Driven Life Devotional for Kids
Perhaps as a parent you have enjoyed reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. If that is the case (or you want to check it out) then you might be interested in asking your kids to join along and read The Purpose Driven Life Devotional for Kids.
Each day has a key verse, a short devotional reading and a prayer. Parents can use these devotionals as launching points to talk about all the ways that God has a design and purpose for their kid’s life. In a world filled with hopelessness, unkindness, and bullying, this message can do much to help ground your kids in God’s Truth about their purpose!
Our Daily Bread for Kids
Breakfast at my grandparent’s home was never complete until Grandpa had pulled out his falling apart Bible and the Our Daily Bread devotional and read from both. Our Daily Bread devotionals were influential during my younger years but I must admit that I kind of forgot about them. Until recently. A few weeks ago I discovered that the same authors that have written those devotionals for the past several decades also wrote Our Daily Bread for Kids.
I am eager to join my kids in making Bible-grounded devotional memories just like the ones that grandparents made with me all those years ago. Let’s introduce the next generation of kids to these wonderful devotionals that are now geared just to their age level!
Hope for Each Day
Perhaps you know of Billy Graham? He left a legacy of being one of the world’s most well-known evangelist and Christians of the past century. Along the way, he authored many books, including this great little devotional.
Allow Billy Graham’s passion for the Lord and His Word to spread to the next generation of kids. Considered by many to be a hero of the Christian faith, you can now let his words comfort both you and your children.

One God, One Plan, One Life
Teenagers face a lot of decisions about what they are going to be doing with their life. In Max Lucado’s One God, One Plan, One Life devotional book, he helps teens know God better and understand that God has a perfect plan for their lives. Throughout the year, your teens can learn wise council from the Bible regarding issues they face each day including tough topics like bullying and drug use.
#Truth
As one of the leading teachers of Christian apologetics in today’s world, Josh McDowell takes large Christian worldview truths and breaks them down to daily bite-sized pieces. #Truth would be a great family devotional to spark conversations about why Christians believe what they believe.
Throughout this book, Josh McDowell addresses topics such as the existence of God, the reliability of the Bible, and evidence for the Resurrection to name a few. If you have teens who are about to leave the safety of your Christian home, this devotional book would be a great resource to help them dive deeper into the worldview that their faith is based upon.
Definitely a top recommendation from me!
Adored
Perhaps you are hoping to find a devotional book geared directly towards the issues facing your teenage daughter? Then Adored would be a solid devotional to consider.
Throughout the year, your daughter will receive patient, Godly encouragement to live out her faith for God boldly. Along the way, she will receive messages to remind her that her worth is found in Christ alone. Many moms who reviewed this book online recommended it because the content of the daily devotionals often led to meaningful conversations with their daughters. How cool is that?!
The Ultimate Boys’ Book of Devotions
Don’t let the teenage boy in your life think that all devotionals are pink and girly because they aren’t. In fact, this entire year long devotional books is written with teenage boys in mind.
The Ultimate Boys’ Book of Devotions seeks to help young men face their daily life with wisdom from God. Throughout this book, many hard topics are covered including sexual issues so be sure to scan it first to see if each day’s devotional is something that you and your teen are ready to read and discuss more. Perhaps this book could be used to start up healthy God-honoring conversations with your son about the challenging topics we know they are already often facing on a daily basis.
Your Turn
Year-long devotional books for kids provide a tremendous resource to building strong habits of Bible study in our kid’s lives. Best of all, these devotional books can help us engage our children on numerous topics throughout the year.

The sports devotional sounds great! My sports-loving son is 19 now. I wish I’d found that when he was young!
